Exotik Restaurant, Longos, Kalayaan, Laguna
Except for the word of mouth and occasional stop-overs of travelers at the highway, not much have been said about Exotik Restaurant. They don’t have a website, not even an email address.

To where we were seated.

Named as the cleanest restaurant in Laguna.

Taken from top, spot right after the entrance.
The first time I dined here was in early 2003 and I had adobong tupa (sheep). This time I had the courage to try more exotic eats.

Kuhol with gata and pako (snails with coconut milk and ferns), PhP100

The challenge to pick what’s inside adds to my appetite.

Inside the snails. I especially loved the combination of coconut milk and ferns with spices in it.

Guess what are these? For PhP280/plate.

Aside from being fried, you can also have these in adobo sa gata or toyo and as sizzling frogs.
Fried frogs are one of their bestsellers.

And to keep the sanity, we had sinampalukang native na manok (native chicken in tamarind soup), PhP285. One of the best sinampalukans that I had!
From the restaurant, everything just seems so good:

Lake view.

Refreshing waters.
And their pets:

You can play with this.

The black snake at the bottom is the more famous one, named Samantha.

I suppose this is a little dangerous since she is placed not near the entrance.

Just before birdie was put back to the cage.

That’s literally a headshot!

Aquarium near the cashier.
Don’t forget to check the items in the souvenir shop. Some of the items:

Tuba, bagoong, lambanog, etc.

Made from coconut.

Not just the food, but the ambiance counts!

Exotik Restaurant is in Highway, Longos, Kalayaan, Laguna. This is four hours drive from Manila. If you are coming from South Luzon Expressway, you have to pass by at Sta. Cruz, Pagsanjan and Lake Caliraya. If you are from Rizal, it would take less than two hours drive and you have to pass by at Siniloan and Paete. Kalayaan would be the next town.

I’m missing the ginataang kuhol. I’ll definitely try it again this December when I’m home for vacation. The frogs, hmmm, let’s see. Maybe adobong palaka or another exotic stuff. 😉
It’s a very nice place. I hope you’ll get to drop by in case you’ll be in Laguna. It’s near Pagsanjan and Sta. Cruz area.

Just been there last week & we tried the Bayawak. I like the meat but not the liver, it taste nasty. I didn’t gave up, I tried the meat & it taste good. The ambiance is superb. You wouldn’t think it’s only a restaurant. It seems to me that I’ve been to a tourist spot too. Samantha is scary. I don’t think I have the guts to play with her even though they say she’s friendly. Their bag made of coconut amazes me especially the price (haha). Try this place, it may amaze you too.

Recently, we traveled roughly 3 hours from Makati to Kalayaan, Laguna to visit this popular restaurant. Bedecked in native furnishings and adorned by a few caged pythons and other species that are strategically situated, this place, at first glance, is true to its theme. Although a few dishes are foreign to most palates, the pricey menu is dominated by typical native and non-exotic dishes. What’s the point? After navigating through the menu, we ordered snake and frog dishes, but they didn’t have those in stock, which completely defeats their vision. Again, what’s the point? So we ended up ordering crocodile meat in gata, tanigue ceviche, lechon kawali, steamed veges and ho to tay soup, but we were disappointed when our orders came in. The portions were small and full of extenders! Tanigue, for example, was full of red onions and only a few pieces of fish. It was like ordering Onions with Tanigue! The crocodile dish was acceptable taste-wise, but there were only 5-6 small sized pieces of meat! The rest was hot pepper and some kind of vegetable. The soup was very salty and dominated by the taste and smell of fish sauce. We asked them to replace it, which they did. Lechon kawali was dry and the steamed veges were not properly done. The only good thing about this experience was their service.
Bottomline, like most people, we do not mind paying the listed price, but everything must be commensurate. Now, if you want to see exotic animals, go to the zoo. If you want to taste them, cook them yourselves. This place is basically a TOURIST TRAP. As we say in New York City, fuggetaboutit!
