Our weeklong break (due to Eid al-Adha) is concluding in few hours. I am glad that I decided not to travel outside the UAE and tried a combination of staycation + never tried stuff. Productivity and leisure rolled into one. I am happy, too, that I gave Abu Dhabi Grand Prix a go last minute and that the tickets “found me” just in time even if it was impossible to source out that hour. Watching a race up close was a new experience. At first, the engine’s roaring was so deafening, despite the ear protection provided to us upon entry to the designated grandstands. It was a thrilling experience. Congratulations to Sebastian Vettel, the youngest Formula One champion.

Kanye West concert in Abu Dhabi

I am one of those who think that the line-up of performers at the after-race concerts plays a vital role to the marketability of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Last night, the three-day concert kicked off with the priceless performance from Kanye West. Since I have not reached that fanatic level yet, I had to prep up by putting up a playlist of songs from his different albums which I devoured few days before the concert. While he is really good as a performer as publicly known, watching and hearing him up close and personal was another thing. He is much, much better when performing live.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2010 tickets

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix tickets were sold out last night. And I almost lost my chance.

It was not that I wanted to learn my lesson the hard way. But it really took me so long to decide if I should buy the tickets or not because months ago I anticipated that I might be traveling outside the UAE by next week’s long break. (Yes, we have a week off due to Islam’s Eid al-Adha, i.e. Festival of Sacrifice.) Also, I hesitated if Linkin Park will indeed be one of the performers at the after-race concerts. While their attendance as well as of Kanye West, Prince and others has long been confirmed by the organizers, I still reserved my doubt until its chance of happening was probable. Why? Because much more than the race, I am interested about the after-race concerts happening on the 12th, 13th and 14th of November. Yes, there goes my personal main triggers. And here’s the catch, only those who are holding the F1 race tickets will be allowed entry to the concerts. And the search is over, much thanks to those (you know who you are!) who helped us get the tickets last minute.

Snapchat-5703935704258315256 Marhaba! That's "hello" in Arabic. I am an expatriate based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). I started writing about my adventures and misadventures few months before arriving here at winter of 2008. I have 2 cats and a dog who live harmoniously together. I am also surrounded by kindhearted, crazy, funny and indescribable humans! I was a dormant blogger for almost 3 years because of countless reasonable justifications like watching football, postgraduate studies, sleeping, traveling, caring for the world, and more! :) I am just so happy that I am back! It is never too late to catch up with the people and things we really care about. Feel free to look around.
