I did not know that I have been missing 10% of my life (and happiness) in the past 7 years of being in the UAE. While I have seen this Levantine cheese pastry plenty of times in restaurants, malls and random gatherings, I never tried consistently ignored it. Until we went to Global Village in Dubai last weekend and took the advice of the radio jocks I heard weeks ago as I was driving. They urged to not miss the “oh-so-yummy-kunafe-from-the-Turkey-section-in-Global-Village!”. And woooow! It is sooo delicious that I can eat it everyday.
What happened next? I ordered different types of kunafe from Saudi Kitchen (that is really the business name) which according to online searches is the best source in Abu Dhabi. However, that one on the photo is unbeatable. The major concern is that Global Village has taken the customary break as an amusement park since summer is approaching and it is going to reopen in winter, i.e. in October or November. And even if it is still open, that would require driving minimum of 3 hours from Abu Dhabi-Dubai-Abu Dhabi.
I can sense that my craving’s level for this yummy treat is almost similar to my fascination for Sajway’s shish taouk.
So, the search for the best kunafe, kunafa, knafah or whichever way you want to pronouce it is officially on!
Just in case you want to try the kunafe from Saudi Kitchen, it is available in Mushrif Mall, Abu Dhabi. Here is the number to dial if you are opting for a delivery: +971 2 6418488.

There’s a shop in New Jersey that makes a version of this and it was featured on the Food Channel. Now that you’ve posted this. I want to try this as well.
