Wonderful things are just around the corner, if you happened to be at the right place, at a right time. It is not everyday that we do catch a wedding… inside a zoo.
While Jurong Bird Park is amazing, I found our visit to Singapore Zoo to be three times more captivating. If I am to write my 10 best experiences in Singapore (to date), the whole day spent in this zoo will probably make it to the first spot. To think that I was not that keen in visiting it. While I am halfway sorting the plenty of photos, here is one of the reasons why I immensely enjoyed that day.
(In the morning, we initially passed by in this area and randomly snapped this intriguing cocktail setting. Now, we know why.)
I cannot adequately stress in words that Singapore Zoo is sooooo huge. And while we were passing by (and lost alike) at 5:00 PM that day, we found ourselves in this almost temporarily blocked area because a wedding was happening. The bride (who looks very Asian) and the groom was atop a maharaja-styled elephant. Really, I can not be thankful enough about the zooming capabilities of the cameras. While I probably understand how the paparazzi do feel, I felt the ultra sense of belongingness that minute (*winks*).
We learned that on very rare occasions, the “residents” of the zoo also engage in other types of wedding (e.g. horse carriage on white Victorian wedding, butterfly themed wedding, and more).

the couple must be animal-lovers to be wed in a zoo!

it’s interesting that a zoo is used for a wedding. still, it must have been nice to ride the elephant.

This is a serendipitous moment which your camera (and your trigger-happy finger haha!) didn’t obviously fail to capture. Nowadays, more & more weddings are held beyond the confines of a church/temple/mosque. A zoo is truly unique.

You were at the right place at the right time indeed, lucky you to witness that wedding =)
What a memorable way to hold one’s wedding at the zoo. People do have many ways to be less traditional. On a side note about weddings, I remembered my colleague planning to hold their beach wedding in Thailand (she’s not Thai). Apart from the beach setting, they find it also cheaper because they would have less guests who can actually fly over, to spend for…

Hello there!
What a pleasant surprise! My friend saw this post and sent the link to me. I’m the (very Asian looking) bride in the picture. I’m glad you enjoyed your time at the zoo and in Singapore. Singapore is my home and my husband and I are animal lovers. My favorite is (of course) the elephant (and you can totally figure that out from my blog name).
You took some great pictures of that day, I really love the color and quality of the pictures. Thank you for this 5 mins of fame. 🙂
