(Photo source). I’ve watched Alice in Wonderland in 3D, not expecting much about the film even if it’s directed by Tim Burton.
Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter, Mia Wisakowska (she looks much like Gwyneth Partlow) as Alice, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen were all effective in their roles. Although the film is visually stunning, I just felt that it lacked the right amount of thrill. It came to a point that whenever the scenes were slowing down, I kept reminding myself to just be entertained by the visuals, fancy dresses and make-ups, and few entertaining scenes (my most fave was when the very tiny Alice was put inside the tea pot). Personally, I think that the appearance of the Red Queen made the scenes came into life. Maybe it’s because of her bulky head and the humour she graced whenever she spoke.
When I went out of the cinema, I never had an aftershock or hang over of the film. I wonder what happened to the magical fantasy touch that it’s supposed to give to the audience.

I agree! Parang may kulang talaga.. But the visuals were great. A feast for the eyes. @_@ We stopped talking about the film when we got to the car, no hangover nga. Hehe. :))

Tim Burton’s version had stunning visuals but it took on a dark tone as it aimed to explore the real life vs reality dilemma faced by Alice. It isn’t really like a fairy tale in fantasy land narrative.
Btw the actress who portrayed Alice was really ugly hehe

haven’t watched the movie yet. but it’s sad naman if there’s no “magic” in the film. alice in wonderland is one of the classic tales we have. the movie should be just as captivating.

Ngayon lang ulit ako nakadalaw, and I’m surprised to find that you had your blog repainted. Cool.
I’m not a fan of Johnny Depp and there are only a few of Tim Burton’s films that I like (i.e. Beetlejuice and The Corpse Bride). Of Burton’s films, I will forever hate Mars Attacks!
Pero dahil 3D sya, will try to watch it with my nieces. Tingnan ko reaction nila (pambata rin kaya sya? I remember watching Batman Returns which was very dark and so kid unfriendly).

I changed themes just yesterday. I thought of trying a dark layout, for the first time. 😉

You have the same assessment as some film critics I’ve watched in TV. Sabi nila, only the “Red Queen” gave life to the film.

I love Johnny Depp. His one of a kind roles never cease to amaze me.
I also heard of not-so-favorable reviews about the movie. I haven’t seen it yet. Perhaps, I’ll get a chance to see it within the week.
