I was one of the many who weren’t able to resist taking snapshots of the full moon last night. It was playing hard to get though. In a split second it was fully shown, the next time it was partly covered by clouds. In a way, it was fun achieving the right time to click the shutter. Another just in time moment was that I was in this particular area of Corniche for the UAE National Day celebration. The humble skyline added to the sight.
Did you know that the blue moon would be appearing soon?
We would often hear the phrase “once in a blue moon”. That means it would happen only once every two-three years. In a month’s time, a full moon comes. However, when it has two full moons, the second is termed “blue moon”. This coming December 31 (yay, in time for the New Year’s eve), we will meet one. Will it be literally colored blue? No. The color just implies that it’s something rare. The next blue moons will appear on 31 August, 2012 and 31 July, 2015.

I didn’t know there’s such a thing as blue moon. I thought it’s just an expression or something. Shows how ignorant I am. LOL!

I could only wish I had my camera with me – I also saw the full moon with the backdrop of NY skyline. Thanks for the info on “blue moon” – heard about this a lot but didn’t bother to find out why until I read it here.

Oh my! Ngayon ko lang nalaman na meron palang ‘blue moon’. Yah, I noticed how big the moon was that night, pero I didn’t realize na may significance pala ang pagiging malaki nya. I thought the moon was just being himself: full. (And why am I calling the moon a ‘he’?).
I’ve a date with a moon on 31 December. (That is, if I don’t forget!).
Nice photos, Jo.

I also wonder why the moon is called a ‘he” and mother nature is a “mother” that it is a she. 😉
I think a lot would be looking forward to December 31 for the so called blue moon.
