(Taken in September 2008 during Ramadan in Al Wahda Mall)
I’m a Catholic but I’ve started reading selected sections of Quoran when a colleague volunteered a copy from her brother who is an Imam. It’s not forsaking but respecting one’s faith and/or religion. Since I’ve been living in UAE for over a year now, it’s important to know where they (the locals) are coming from.
This is my entry for this week’s Photo Hunt.

That is so true, learning other religion or culture for that matter is not forsaking yours, but a growth in the right direction.
Great take, love the entry.

Good for you! I think it’s about right to read something about the people you’re with to really know something about them, their values, and a bit of history too on tradions and practices.

True, reading the Koran is one way of understanding middle eastern culture. Since most of their practices are based on their holy book. It’s also one of their procedure if they’re targeting you for convertion. : )

Great post! I’ve always said that if you want to understand other cultures and how they view yours, read their holy books. I am Jewish and in college I made a point of taking some courses in comparative religion. I own a copy of the New Testament, right alongside the Pentateuch. And I’ve read it. Today, I can hold my own in any conversation about religion from an educated perspective. I applaud you.
Thanks for coming by!

Great take on the theme. I took a course in college on world religions and I found it very interesting learning about some of the many different religious beliefs.

to learn about other faith is enriching. it can also enlighten. and if one choose to leave one’s faith because he has seen the light from another, it does not make him less of a man, i believe.
nice take on the theme.
